What is KDF 55?

• What it does

  KDF 55 is a granulated, high-purity copper-zinc media that uses redox to remove contaminants from water. It can reduce or remove chlorine, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide, and other water-soluble cations.KDF 55 can also control scale, bacteria, and algae, even in hot water. 

• How it works

  KDF 55 uses redox, or the exchange of electrons, to change harmful contaminants into harmless components. For example, free chlorine is changed into chloride, which is then carried harmlessly through the water. Heavy metals like lead, copper, and mercury plate out onto the surface of the media and are removed from the water. 

  Certifications

  KDF 55 is certified by NSF to NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for drinking water treatment units. It also complies with California's Health and Safety Code Section 166875 and Vermont Act 193.
